Orientation Day

Mandatory attendance for all students, both in an out of town at the Academy. The Orientation is a forum in which questions are answered, rules clearly detailed, and carpools arranged for the duration of the Intensive. Additionally, students are meet the Faculty and Staff before classes begin.

Dancewear and all dress code items will be on sale at the Academy.

Faculty

The stellar reputation of DADA belongs not only to Ms. Allen and her passionate determination to offer Dance and theater arts as a foundation for living, but also to the incredible faculty she has assimilated. They are renowned world-class artists that come from the highest and most diverse corners of the Dance Globe.

Prima Ballerina from the Bolshoi, Principle Soloists from The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Principle Dancer from the Royal Ballet in England, Master Certified by Katherine Dunham, The New York School of Ballet, The Kirov in Russia, dance masters trained by Bob Fosse, Jerome Robbins, George Faison, Martha Graham, Arthur Mitchel.

Dress Code

(Please note the Dress Code is strictly enforced).

Ballet:
Girls – Black tank leotard (All Leotards should be Sleeveless), pink tights, pink ballet shoes with elastics/hair pulled back in a bun
Young Men - White fitted tee shirt, black sweat pants or black biking shorts of black tights, black socks, black ballet shoes

Modern/Dunham:
Girls – Black tank leotard, black footless tights, hair pulled back
Young Men - White fitted tee shirt, black cotton biking shorts or black fitted sweat pants or black footless tights

Jazz:
Girls – Black tank leotard, black footless tights, black jazz shoes, hair pulled back.
Young Men - White fitted tee shirt, black jazz pants or black cotton biking shorts or black fitted sweat pants

Hip-Hop:
All – Colorful Tee Shirt, Sweat pants or Blue Jeans any style EXCEPT below the belly button or sagging, tennis shoes

African:
Girls – Black tank leotard, black tights, colorful cloth for hip wrap- 3 to 4 feet long, 24"wide, hair pulled back or loose, bare feet
Young Men - fitted white tee shirt, black sweat pants or jazz pants, bare feet.

Tap:
Girls - Black tank top leotard, sweat pants or jazz pants or jeans, hair pulled back, tap shoes
Young Men - White fitted tee shirt, black jazz pants or black sweat pants, tap shoes. No tights allowed

Character/ Flamenco:
Girls - Black tank leotard, pink tights, black character skirt, black character shoes. Hair pulled back off of face.
Young Men – White fitted tee shirt, black jazz pants or black sweat pants, jazz shoes or flamenco shoes

** Character skirts are knee length. Flamenco skirts are ankle length. Ruffles at the bottom are optional.

Auditions:

To ensure your place in our Summer Intensive, an audition is necessary. The first on site audition will be held early January. There is a $25 Audition fee; payment is accepted by cash or credit card. Dancers should come prepared with the proper dance clothing and shoes. Please bring a passport-size photo. Call 310.280.9145 to register. On site audition dates for our summer intensive 2012 are as follows:

Out of towners may send a 1-2 minute video performing in their main technique. If you are not submitting yourself in ballet or modern, please give us some demonstration of your flexibility and leg extensions.

Returning Students Note: If you are a returning dancer from the previous year's Summer Intensive, an audition is not necessary. Simply return your renewal forms, with the appropriate deposits, as quickly as possible to ensure your space in the Summer Intensive. All other candidates must audition for placement.
