A BRIEF HISTORY
DADA on Pointe was originally conceived in the Spring of 2004 as an in-house ballet workshop. Ms. Allen, along with founding Academy Director Mme. Adrienne Dellas, recognized the need to narrow the classical ballet gap in black and brown communities. Misty Copeland (American Ballet Theater), Lauren Anderson (Houston Ballet), Desmond Richardson (Complexions Contemporary Ballet), Alla Khaniashvili (Bolshoi), Tiler Peck (New York City Ballet), and Alison Stroming (Dance Theater of Harlem) are some of the master teaching artists who have participated in this intensive. Today, DADA On Pointe additionally operates as a full-time, pre-professional day program for dedicated dancers looking to pursue careers in classical ballet, concert dance or attend prestigious collegiate dance programs.
DADA ON POINTE TODAY
DADA On Pointe is now expanding to a full-time pre-professional day program. This new program is specifically designed for a dedicated dancer who is looking to pursue a career in classical ballet, concert dance or attend a prestigious collegiate dance program.
The DADA On Pointe program focuses on quality of training rather than the quantity of hours. Students will train for 15 hours a week in ballet, contemporary and modern dance, learn ballet history, somatic practice, and performance technique. Enrollment will be limited so students receive more individualized attention and focus on details. The curriculum borrows the best from each pedagogy: Vaganova, Cecchetti, Bournonville, French, and English.
